Intermediate Phase

Grades 4-6

Dear Intermediate Phase learners/parents of 2021.

Allow us to introduce the team in the capable hands of Mr. J. Rondozai, who is the HOD of the phase as well as the grade 5 teacher.

Mr. B. Ncube Grade 6 class teacher, Mrs. Z Rasi Grade 4 class teacher and  Mr. T. Maphosa Grade 7 class teacher who are given the responsibility of manning and nurturing the Intermediate Phase learners, are so excited to learn that there is a possibility that they might be your Grade teachers this coming year. Our staff are highly motivated and fully qualified to ensure each child develops holistically during this phase.

It will be a great pleasure venturing with you throughout the year 2021 as we offer the CAPS Syllabus. During the lockdown, our learners never stopped learning and teaching continued effectively online. We create an educationally friendly institution where learning and teaching is of high standard.

We conduct a variety of sporting and other activities on different days and school terms:

During the first term we have Athletics, whereby we compete at inter- House level, then with our other sister schools. This allows for mass participation and team building. We also have Soccer, Netball, Volleyball, Basketball and Cricket. The institution also has an “Activity Period” or Clubs on Thursdays whereby learners choose where they want to participate in. These activities or clubs include:

  • Drama, Public Speaking and Debate.
  • Dance Club.
  • Choir.
  • Knitting and Sewing Club.
  • Cross Country.
  • Table Tennis.
  • Chess.
  • Remedial English and Mathematics.
  • Reading club.
  • Martial Arts.

As learners participate in these activities, besides having fun, they also discover themselves and always have an opportunity to learn important life skills which will be of greater help as they venture into life.

Our learners also participate in Science Scuffle, Skirmish Reading and Spelling Bee’s. Besides being so involved in different schooling activities, our learners also have the privilege of going on educationally termly excursions. Learners, especially in the intermediate, phase usually go for Camos and Excursions. Some of the trips and tours we went on was to Goldreef City, Bela-Bela, Hartbeespoort Dam, Sun City and Lesedi Cultural Home. Once again we aim to incorporate life and educational lessons in all excursions.

We are also inculcating the spirit of Ubuntu and responsibility by encouraging our learners to participate in fund raising events in order to donate and support the nearby St. Christopher’s Children’s Home, especially on Mandela Day’s 67 Minutes.

We are hopeful to see you soon at Rand Tutorial College.

Regards.
